    Ricoh Aficio 1018D image skew!

Seems like optical skew to me but checked mirrors and they are all in square.

Image is skewing in a parrallelogram effect. ie the image is out of square. Short edges are parrallel with edges of paper but long edges are out by 5-7mm top to bottom.

I have done a test pattern print which appears square so it seems like optics.

Does anyone know an adjustment for this.

    Thanks,
    Lea (+447973) 524893 lea@abm.uk.com

Take off the left side covers, find the little plate with 3 screws on it. They are all together horizontally. It is about 3/4 of the way back towards the rear of the machine. I can't remember if you can get to them with only the upper cover off. Loosen the 3 screws and lift up on the front left corner of scanner. It will probably move a good 5-10mm if it is like the others I've found. Hold the corner up and tighten the 3 screws. Tell your customer not to lean on or put heavy objects on that corner of the machine. Good Luck

Make sure the problem is optics first. Print an engine test pattern (trimming pattern works well), and see if the problem is present. If it is OK, then yes, it is probably the pushed down scanner corner. If the engine pattern is also skewed, there is an adjustment for the laser unit which is supposed to correct this. I have also seen uneven registration roller pressure cause that particular model to skew.
Don't take that toner with me!

Hey thanks for both of your replies. It was the optics adjustment like Totoro said.

I have had similar problems with 1045's but with those I just bend them back. A little crude I know but this was better with the three screws exactly where you said.

        Thanks again.
