One other way to scan is to the document server of the Ricoh. You can then access through WIM by logging in as a user and not an administrator. Learned that from a customer

Don't do the SMB 1, you will regret it. Hackers will crypto lock your computer. FTP servers are not secure and a pain to set up.
Just simplify this whole problem. Get a network storage device like a WD mycloud and put a shared folder(s) that everyone you give permission to can access. I've given this solution to several clients with older Ricoh's, and they also appreciate the digital storage available on the drive too.

That is the best way to do create a default user on a new computer.

I set up a local account with Windows. I then create a folder in Root (C) I set sharing for that folder, adding the local account I created with Read and Write. I copy the path that is shown after Sharing. I open the Web Image Monitor and go to Address Book. I create a name to use for scanning and go through the Folder setup stuff. It will ask for a path, and I paste the path I got when sharing the folder. I then enter the account (and password) to the local account I created, still in Web Image Monitor by the way, and click Next or Done. I then go back to C: and drag that folder over and create a SHORTCUT to the one in C: All works every time for me. The creation of a local account is for permissions and what not. I may have left something out, and if need be, PM me and I'll type a longer, more in-depth set of instructions. The way you describe, you just don't have permissions for the copier to send, or write, to your computer. You can print and get to WIM and all that, but cannot scan to folder. Doing what I do will get you to scan to folder. There is a STF Scan To Folder tool somewhere on Ricoh's website. It pretty much does the same thing I described.

    Hope that helps.

and yes the one setting this up. you gotta have the user id and password, most cases.
There's a good reason Windows keeps disabling SMB1...

A space before or after "admin" will cause that problem as will fat fingering a key next to the enter key.

I wonder if I'm having this problem because I didn't set a password for the new user I'm sharing files with?

Everything is great, the file where my scans will go has also appeared on the machine. But I get network wall error from the machine. I granted all necessary permissions from the network sharing center and turned off the firewall. I scan but I can't import the pdf to file. Where could the problem be?

We type admin as the username and leave the password blank and we get an error. That's why I want to scan using FTP over the IP and switch we have assigned. I know it's very confusing and bad
FTP confusing, NO. FTP bad, extremely. It is the least secure method of file sharing. If that switch is connected to the internet you expose your computer to every hacker in the world by installing an FTP server.
