Ricoh MP C3004EX transfer belt assy. question

Hi Guys, I went on a call today, the customer told me that small pieces of a roller came out of the machine after a jam. She said she cleared the jam & found several more pieces & now the pages are blank.

I made the 50 mile trip to find out that the transfer belt assy has come apart & pieces everywhere. My question is, is this something that happens with this model? I have been trying to find the entire belt assy and not having any luck. I also found on eBay that you can buy just the belt itself & you can replace it onto the old unit. I am not a Ricoh/Savin guy, but I think I can do this if you tell me it's possible. What causes this belt to come apart? I am more worried about buying the belt & installing it on the old unit & then it happens again on install. Does the transfer belt assy lock up or freeze and it causes it to tear the belt or is it the nature of the beast to just buy a belt & install it on the old unit? The machine has approx. 350K total pages on it. Is it worth it to rebuild the belt assy or find an entire new belt assy?

Does anyone have a new belt assy to sell me or maybe a really good used one that would work for this application?

    Any help appreciated.

As to the exact cause of the belt shredding it could be any number of reasons. A bad paper jam, cleaning unit blade flipped, seized bushing, forcing side door closed with transfer roller out of position, labels stuck to belt, user accidentally nicked belt while removing jam, etc.

If unsure about the unit i would opt for a whole unit if possible(note the factory ITB assy does not come with a new cleaning unit or the transport coil on the front of the ITB unit).

If all the rollers seem to spin freely you could most likely get away with just the belt but also a new cleaning unit would be recommended. clean off the rubber and metal rollers as there could be toner built up on them. be sure to lube up the belt/blade to prevent a dry start.

if its shredded badly enough i would pull out all the drums and inspect the whole area and units for belt shards as there will likely be pieces everywhere.

    Part #'s
    NA/LA - Belt assy - D2416006
    EU/ASIA - Belt assy - D2416005
    Belt - D0E36097
    Cleaning unit - D0BQ6141

A tip for servicing it if you have a corner of a desk or table to work on you can prop the unit up on its front face plate to get the new belt on. also cam the 1/2 moon gear on the back for engaging the colour rollers to the open position. a 2nd pair of hands can be handy when installing the new belt to prevent kinking/scratching the new belts as they usually come rolled up for smaller packaging

Thank you for your input..... I found several places that list the belt and they say they have it in stock, I actually call them and they're like, no that part will take 15 days or more to get in, and it's damn near $500.... Would you have a contact that would have the complete belt assembly and the cleaning assembly?

      Thanks again

Thank you all a bunch who contributed. I completed the call today ... I found a great price for the ITB Transfer belt assy. at GM Supplies Ltd, received it in on Saturday, installed the cleaning unit on it & took it into the customer's office this morning & the machine works great. Just thought I would share... Have a great day!!
