Ricoh mpc306 producing spots and lines

    Hi there
Does anyone know why the drum on the ricoh mpc306 appears to produce spots and lines? When inspected, the spot seems to be a very small pin hole and this causes a line at that point on copies .It happened again when i replaced the drum so i am wary about trying another one. Thanks in advance

What are the pages counts on the drum?
    OEM drum?
    OEM supplies?
PMs done on time and properly?

It's not a typical problem - any chance to see pictures/sample scan? I know if some "bad" particles end up on the charge roller it can cause dot-lines. If you swapped an entire PCDU it should be fine if the origin of that problem is the PCDU.

The only thing the drum is in contact with (beside dev) is the transfer belt so that would be the next thing to inspect/replace.

        Hi there Phil
Thanks for your reply, I do not have the page counts for the drums but the other drums in the machine appear to be the same sort of age and they are fine.

I am using oem used drums because I installed compatible new drums and the problem occurred so I am wary about putting a brand new drum unit in at least before I know what is causing the problem i.e. damage to the drum which exhibits itself in spots and lines across the width bisecting the spots ( when they occur).
No I have not done pm's ; this is a machine I bought from a trade supplier in working order and I think I may have robbed a drum for a machine in the field and several months later come back to it and this problem is baffling me.

I don't think its something basic I've overlooked but if you think it is ...I will have to try the new unused drum and hope the phantom pinhole does not occur again.Thank you!

Thank you...I think you're right I have been swapping drums , charge rollers etc...I may just have to bite the bullet and swap a whole drum unit .

Perhaps there may have already been a small pinhole on the drum cylinder beforehand which I hadn't noticed! The drum units are so expensive relative to what you can realistically sell these drums for, I have been experimenting with used and compatible drums which may have confused me slightly-lol

          Thanks for your help!!

Cheers man - guess it makes more sense to swap the entire PCDU or keep using this machine as parts donator - I think the consumables aren't really pricey enough to try refurbishing them.

It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

              Hit it.

I was then reluctant to change it for an original in case that also "damaged itself" which was when I sort help.

Basically my mistake and not really a genuine problem I suppose , but sometimes it takes the eyes of others to see where you've made a silly mistake! Thanks again all!
