    Aficio 2045E - SMB scanning

Just refurbishing this machine for delivery.
Everything works great, except I can't get SMB to work. I've set up dozens with no problem -yes, I have netbios over tcp/ip enabled, etc...etc, and currently have other machines doing SMB scanning here in my shop. I am able to scan through Scanrouter, but i don't want to use that option due to the discontinued support.I can also scan to email. However, after making all settings, when I set a document to scan to SMB, it simply fails.
I also can't access the network using the control panel of the machine if I attempt to set it that way.
I have also tried memory clear (all) and it makes no difference.
This one doesn't seem to make a lot of sense since it works for the other types of scanning
    Any ideas???

If you're using a Windows 2003 server, you need special firmware from Ricoh to make the machine work with SMB scanning.

You can also turn off packet signing on Windows 2003 Server. This is turned on by default on the SBS version but off by default on the full-blown package.

PM me your email address if you want and I'll forward the instructions to you.

Oh, but make sure that you get the network administrator's permission first! Or just do it without telling them

Thanks, i've heard about the "packet signing" in Server '03, but this is XP, and like I said i have multiple units working on my office PC right now....just can't get this one going.

Will the machine scan to another PC?

Also, check whether there are any firewalls on the PC (there almost certainly are!) and make sure that they are allowing file and print sharing. Norton can be a particular headache for this.

And, as a final thought, I had an issue with this a little while ago when Windows Firewall was blocking the traffic although file and print sharing was allowed. I disabled it, checked that it worked and then reset the firewall to defaults (in the advanced tab, at the bottom) and turned file and print sharing back on. A bit extreme but I was shit out of other options!

Oh, and check that the permissions on the shared folder are set correctly and double-check the username and password. I know that this seems obvious, but sometimes one overlooks the obvious...

Yes, make sure that there is no other software affecting the entire OS, like some Norton "I'll take over your computer" or McAfee "I own you" software suites.

When you say you can't see the network, are you saying that when you browse the network via the copier, that you can't do that?

Change the path of the comp name to the IP addy, and recheck the path (I'm sure this has been done over and over, you may even have another set of eyes recheck it, in case you're actually looking at the problem, but can't see it.) Hell, this has been done a few times with us techs.

An excellent point Schooltech, I've found the DNS to be twitchy at best in the past and I always use the IP address rather than the computer name for installations. It's a bit of a pest setting them up to a static (with the administrator's blessing of course ) but worth it in the long run.

See if you can ping other computer on the nw.
See if you can ping the copier from destination workstation.
