    RW240 rebooting

I have a customer that when they send a print job to the Rw240 controller, it reboots.
I thought that it may be a virus so tried to look at the firewall/anti-virus settings but it rebooted as soon as I clicked on it.
I think it is running plotbase ver 3.3 which I intend to upgrade tomorrow, and will try to do a virus scan .
    They are using autocad 2009.

I visited the same customer for the same fault about a month ago and seemed to resolve it by doing a system restore. I also opened the tower, checked the pwbs were seated ok and cleaned it out with a can of air.
Now the fault has returned. Any ideas?

If I am correct in assuming you mean the computer with the Ratio Plot Base controller reboots, not the 240W itself...

I haven't encountered this exact problem as of yet but my advice would be...

Before you do a Restore again, try going into the Event Viewer to see what may be causing the problem on the computer.

Check your disk space as well. I believe they have fixed this issue...but.... I know with prior Ratio Controllers and software certain types of jobs would create a temp file and those would add up after a while and cause the PlotBase to freeze and/or not start up due to lack of disk space. I don't remember the folder exactly but it will be under the current user name. Something like c:/Documents and settings/UserName/Local Settings/____. "local settings" is a hidden folder so you will need to set the computer to show all files. Search for files ending with .tmp and if you see a crapload in a folder in the path described above...delete those suckers.

What anti-virus are they running? Hopefully not one of the computer resource hogs, Norton or McAfee. Those two are bad news in ANY situation.

Also had a customer who was causing problems by using the Controller PC as a tool to surf...well...less than acceptable web sites. Loaded the machine with tons of Junkware. LOL

Hopefully upgrading PlotBase will solve the problem...That's a good start.

    Good Luck

Relax! This firmware injection won't hurt...but it will take 45 minutes.

I suspect the power supply or mother board is going bad. Make sure the cooling fans on the CPU and power supply are turning. Good luck.

I spent 6 years as a computer tech before I started with copiers, and still do quite a bit of work with them - seen some of the strangest things...

I was reloading XP on a computer that was ate up with virus/spyware - every time I tried to set the clock the system would crash. Started over with a different XP disk, no luck - turns out the CPU fan was bad. Why setting the clock would crash it but it would run through a complete install is beyond me, but I'll back cobiray: check the fans and PS.

          Fixed?

          No virus found when scanned.
Updated to Plotbase 3.71 this morning , and it seems to have fixed it. Autocad 2009 works on it now, and it didnt reboot during two hours of testing.
Will have to wait and see now.
          Thanks for the help.
