    ricoh scan to ftp

I am totally clueless why the scan to ftp to ricoh doesnt work..

I use windows IIS ftp.Usually this doesnt give any issue like smb version.
    but the scanning just failed.

What i have troubleshoot so far.

recreate the ftp IIS path done
check the username and password is correct.
    check the IP done
ftp firewall add to exception done
advanced firewall sharing port 21 dont block inbound and outbound done
removed antivirus and disable defender done
    no vpn software running.
reinstall the network lan driver done.
    check network sharing it's enabled.

    scanning still failed.
but if i tested it with my computer, configuration is just straight forward and its working properly

ftp is far less secure than SMBv1 and is often blocked on a network by domain policy. Setting up an FTP server is a very good way to get kicked off a customer site and told never to return.

      Any third party anti virus?

You can also download quick and easy ftp instead of windows.

And no using ftp to scan internal on a network is not an issue

You're transmitting credentials in the clear, even on an internal network that can be a risk if there's a traffic sniffer or other malicious software present.

FTP is also something that gets flagged by almost every vulnerability scanner I've seen, and no security conscious customer I have will even touch it.

It's one of those things that can just create a risk to a customer network that an outside tech doesn't have the right to judge for the customer.

If they do agree to using FTP, get it in writing that you are not responsible for any issues arising from its use.

Not anyone's first option more like a last resort on older MFPs that can't email or use smb

That would be true if you using a user credentials that has rights. However setting a a fake user as Scan with a password is not an issue as it gets you no access to anything.

If your network is access to a hacker you have bigger problems

PS every copier copier manufacturer still have FTP as a valid Scan option.

Even the oldest Ricoh MFP had the ability to use TWAIN scanning, making FTP totally unneeded. If they have a HDD, needed on a Ricoh for temporary storage of a document prior to sending, you can scan to the document server and use WIM to download it to a computer.
