    Gestetner/Ricoh MP2000 Scanner (type2000 network) Greyscale?

    Hello,

first excuse my english (i think im out of practice...).

I ask me, is the Gestetner or the Ricoh MP2000 network scanner really unable to scan with greyscales or can this reached with a firmware update or inofficial drivers? I cant believe that such a scanner is unable to scan in a mode which the oldest scanners can do... (ok, i know he should only copy in bw, but its a very, very big scanner, and the histograms are dynamic too, so i think there must be a way. Or is this a economic desire from ricoh to disable this function, so that people have to buy other (expensiver) hardware?).

Maybe here is a guru who can help or solve this problem...

Thanks a lot for your answers.

    Greetings from Germany

I think this is what you are asking for...

Attached are pages from the Scanner Reference Operator Manual for selection of original types.

Sorry, it's english but you should be able to download the operator manuals in other languages from Ricoh's website. There should be a basic one and then one for Print, Scan, Fax, Network Guide, etc.

    Hope this helps.

      Hi,

thanks for the quick answer. I think someone of us is wrong. My printer is a Gestetner MP2000 (i thought this is the same as a ricoh mp2000, but maybe im wrong). From which model is this manual? My scanner cant do colour anyway... But my hope is, that its possible to scan in greyscale.

The scanner driver is: NRG Scanner Driver Ver.4 MP2000 (RNPB5D28A)
      Driver Version is 4.24.04
      Scanner Version is 01.05

      I hope this helps...

      Thanks for your answers

      Greetings

      Dirk

PS: Its strange: In the scanner manual from the homepage of Gestetner ist for every model a technical specification like 8bit and for older models 1Bit for example. Only for the MP2000 i found nothing in puncto greyscale-modes....

The pages are from the USA version of the Ricoh MP2000 but over here in the states, Ricoh MP2000 = Gestetner DSm721??

Must be a difference in the USA and European markets.

        Sorry.

Is this what your machine looks like?? MP 2000

If so the pages I sent you are from the Scanner Guide on your link.

I think we are talking about US Apples and European Oranges here.

              Yes, thats the machine.
Is there a chance to scan in greyscales with an upgrade, a firmwareupdate or another driver or,or,or?

              Thanks for your reply

This is from the Specifications tab on my last link. The Scanner reference manual should have all the info on how to set scan types. Over here, grayscale is standard.

                Scanner Specifications

Scanning Speed 43 ipm @ 200 dpi, Letter Size
                Scan-to-Email/Folder/Network: Scanning Resolution 600 dpi

                Grayscale
                256 levels

Mhhh.... if i follow the documentations for this modell i found this scanner-reference:

and there is nothing to find in...

Are you sure that you send me the dokumentation for the MP2000 (not for another like MP2000DDST or so)?

                  Im little confused....

Look on page 108 of that guide. Section 5 Various Scan Settings (Selecting Original Type) Selecting Photo will give you grayscale.

I hoped too, but the scanner driver gives two ways to scan:
                      1. Text (binary)
                      2. Photo (binary)
so the photo-mode is binary too, and i asked me, if there a backdoor to get greyscales...

Thanks a lot for your reply.

Now you have me confused...are you talking about TWAIN scanning? Not Scan to folder or email??? If so those would be settings in the Twain driver, not on the machine. I have not used the Twain Driver on this machine. Try the Twain Driver help file.

                        I'm at a loss here.

Edit: Just installed the twain for this model and read the Help file. It states plainly that grayscale is NOT available on this driver.

I think you're out of luck unless Ricoh releases another driver.

Wouldn't it be better to set up SMB scan-to-folder or scan-to-email? Twain's a bit old hat now, what with all the toing and froing from machine to PC etc etc

                          Oh 'eck, it's 2 o'clock...
