    1075 web

a colleague has a problem with the web drive on a 1075, it doesn't stop.
He replaced the web when called and a couple of weeks later .....web end called. back to customer and the web was practicaly unused, but had driven all the way to 80% used. no fault found with web unit, it checks out ok in output check and the brake pad is intact.
    Any ideas out there?

There was a tech bulletin for the B064 that dealt with the cleaning web. If I remember right, a firmware update was involved. I do not have that information in print. I wish I could have been more helpful.

This may sound stupid, but it is possible to put the wwb in backwards, reset count to "0" and the machine may run a day or two with no malfunction.

thanks for that suggestion, maybe firmware is the answer. He thought maybe the web was backwards, initially and replaced it but it came back, same problem

I recall something like this could happen if the motor wires for the web get pinched behind the cover on the fuser.
Don't take that toner with me!

The pinched wires is a definate possibility. I had one of these a while ago that was doing the opposite, the web wasn't driving at all so it was building up a big chunky mass of toner in one spot, killing the hot roller and eventually tearing the web off..........but I digress.

Whilst I was fault finding I discovered that the BICU toggles the web by switching ground. In other words there is a permanent +5v supply to the web motor. This confused the crap out of me until I tried another BICU (which fixed the fault) because I could measure a 5 volt supply to the web despite the fact it wasn't turning and could get the motor to turn by grounding out the black wire to the copier chassis.

Hence if the wire that supplies ground to the web motor (and hence provides the BICU control) is grounded to the copier chassis somewhere, then that web is going to turn continuously until it's exhausted and you get SC550.

I'll ask him to check that. I have spoken to my colleague today and he has checked the web settings and they are all at default, so maybe the firmware route is not going to solve this problem.

                Thanks to all

I'm pretty sure that the firmware fixes a bug that goes beyond the default 1902 settings; it fixes some internal logic.

The only thing that is odd is that the machine is doing this suddenly. Usually, the 550 code would pop on machines out-of-the-box, rather than exhibit it years later in the field. Is this a 'seasoned' machine, or was it just purchased from a wholesaler?

I'd still update the firmware anyway, but you might be looking at a physical fuser wiring issue, as previously stated.

mchine has been in same customer for three or four years. i don't know if any work was done on it that would have caused a wire to become trapped but i'll pass the message on and let you know what the score is
