SP-2801 TD Sensor Initial Setting --> Run only once for developer/TD sensor change?

I'm have a few months training to be a tech for the Ricoh 906,907,1107 etc.

I'm being taught that it is ok to run SP2801 when the voltages of Vref, Vt are low but the manual says to only run 2801 when I change the developer or the TD sensor.
Can anyone confirm which way to go.

"Immediately after installing new developer, the TD sensor initial setting procedure should be
performed with SP2801 (TD Sensor Initialization) to avoid damage to the main machine. Do not
perform the TD sensor initial setting with used developer. Do not make any copies before doing the
    TD sensor initial setting"

You are looking at the wrong portion of the service manual. look at the Service Tables portion of the service manual. You will find "Use this mode only after replacing the TD sensor or the developer" so if you have replaced the TD run sensor go ahead and run SP 2801-002 to enter a lot number for the developer and then run SP 2801-001 to adjust the sensor. But before you do that, make sure that the ID sensor in the PCU frame is not dirty the ID patch will look darker than it actually is causing Pro Con to change the values.

The service table also says to perform 2801 only after developer/TD sensor change, but
the person that is training me runs 2801 every time we do other service maintenance for the machine. Would doing so shorten the life span of the developer?

      SC2801 TD Sensor Initial Setting
Performs the TD sensor initial setting.
This SP mode controls the voltage applied to the TD sensor to make the TD sensor output
about 2.5 V. After finishing this, the TD sensor output voltage is displayed. Touch [Start] to
      execute.
You must also enter the developer lot number. (The lot number is stenciled on the top edge
      of the developer package.)
Use this mode only after replacing the TD sensor or the developer.
