    Ricoh C751 "Add Toner" Message with new bottles

    Hi Everyone,
    I checked a Ricoh C751 for "add black toner" message problem, after replacement of the toner bottle. I tried two different bottles and had same message. I checked the pump unit. When I push the bottle into the house, the white gears in the picture turn for five seconds, then "Add toner" message appears on the display. Right side black gears never start to turn. It means toner pick up from the bottle dosen't start. My questions;

    1. This is a second-hand machine, if the toner bottles are a bit old (more than two years), can the machine refuse to load the toner?
    2. I tried to initialize the black toner fill up via diagnostic menu. The left side black gears in the picture turned approx. twenty seconds, but the right side gears which pull the toner from the bottle never attempted to start. I think the gear clutch is OK, but the machine does not activate it. Could this be also toner chip reader problem?

    I hope I could explain clearly, thanks for your valuable comments from now guys.

    usually the problem is in the toner pump. the pump tries to suck the toner a couple of times and if it fails it kills the chip. it is necessary to inspect the pipes and change the pump. there is also a patch that fixes the killed chips, or put new bottle and later you can use the "killed" ones.
    all engines and clutches can be started from diagnostics.

      Many thanks for your reply Bojans. It is clear now. I asked customer to order a new bottle before I left. In this case he should not insert the new bottle before a new pump.
