    af 1045-vertical black line

i have a aficio 1045 behaving erratically..The first copy i make has a black vertical band of around 4inches on the leading edge..and the rest of the copy is clean and ok.The 2nd copy and other subsequent copies on the multiple copying is ok.But i make another copy the 1st copy has the vertical black band and the cycle is repeatted.

I have changed the charge roller, and the ld unit but the problem persist. The problem is killing ma patience.Anyone who has ever encountered a problem like that...

    Many thanks

I'd check the drum timing pulley. The inside of the pulley should be flat on one side, to allow for proper movement of the drum drive shaft. I'd be willing to bet that yours is rounded somewhat, causing it to slip when it first starts up.

Remove the flywheel, and the flange behind it to get to the timing pulley.

    Best of luck!

I second that!! the pulley splits and moves on the shaft.it is fixed using an allen screw and is quite easy to round off.

I also have a 1045p doing the exact same thing. When you say remove the flywheel, and the flange behind it to get to the timing pulley. I have moved the flywheel but exactly what does the flange look like. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The gear you're looking at is behind the spindle the flywheel attaches to. There is a hex screw on the top to remove and the gear hides behind it.

                Hit it.

Thank you that diagram helps a lot. One more question if I may. Do I replace the timing pulley and if so what part or parts do need replacing. Thanks
