High speed SD cards question: any faster?

Does a high speed SD card load firmware any faster?
Anybody tried this and timed it?
Some firmware seems to take forever to update.

Like any link between two pieces of software.the only holdup is the link.I havent seen anything to speed up download speed in any Ricoh product.Dont expect to see anything else as long as the product they use now works for them now.

No it will not load any faster. It will write from the PC to the card faster, just not from the card to the machine.

        From wikipedia's SD card article:

"One critical difference between the Speed Class and the maximum speed ratings is the ability of the host device to query the SD card for the speed class and determine the best location to store data that meets the performance required"

So using a high speed card, your speed is limited by the host, not the card.

Hence the question becomes, does Ricoh impliment a high speed SD card reader on their MFPs? I expect the answer is no. You can test this hypothisis by simply purchasing a high speed card and seeing if it feel faster, since wikipedia says that all the SD speeds are compatable you should be fine.

Just don't purchase an SDHC card...

Agreed. I haven't seen Ricoh jumping onto new standards when what they have currently is already working. The whole copier industry isn't really on the bleeding edge nor even close enough to get nicked by it.

Are we techs ever satisfied? Remember the days when we had to burn the ROMs ourselves or worse yet wait for the ROM to be delivered by UPS?? Then swap the bastards without bending or breaking the legs?

I've found that on the newer MFPs with the RFU firmware, the upload process goes faster through the web interface. Sure, ya gotta set your laptop with the cross over cable to isolate it from some user accidentally printing to it and it loads only one at a time, but I like it better myself now....my regional rep pushed me to use RFU files after listening to me bitch about the speed of using SD cards. He listens to me bitch a lot. (if he's reading this, a shout out "Thanks! and I have some SO for you."

I dislike watching those annoying little ******* and _ _ _ _ _ _ to march across the screen at a snail's pace. Not to mention waiting for the machine to read the card before booting to the update screen. Some seem to take forever to get to that screen from the SD card. None of that BS with RFU and the web interface.

Try it out...ya might like it.

Relax! This firmware injection won't hurt...but it will take 45 minutes.

I actually like the fact that it takes a few minutes to load from the SD card. Gives me a few minutes to check email, use the phone, get a coffee or use the john. I actually dislike the RFU as you have to load up the files individually and then sit there and baby sit it for each one.
