Another weird one on MP 5000

    Fax problem this time.
Customer reported that they can not send or receive.
    Tested line OK.
In the fax screen memory status was 69% and Receiving green light was on (fax & net cables disconnected from machine). From Fax screen or Service mode it was impossible to print the Journal or the visualize the status for TX or RX files...
Only from the main Copy screen pressing the System Status button I was able to see that 39 received faxes are in memory. After I presented the situation to the customer and obtained their OK I decided to take more radical measures.
Uploaded the latest firmware. No results.
RAM clear for FAX and reinitialized RAM. Everything OK, back to normal. Monitored the unit for 30 minutes (aprox 50 RX faxes and 5 TX).
Anyone with a similar problem? Any idea about how to avoid this problem in the future? Thx

One of the other techs at the shop told me about this last week, so take it with a grain of salt. He said he was out at a call on one of these with a fax option (can't remember if it was 4000 or 5000) and it also wouldn't print anything out. He said he fiddled around with it for about 45 minutes and then called tech support. They told him to check the fax paper tray to see if it was too full. It was and he took some paper out and PRESTO, it started to print. Apparently there is a firmware issue. I'm not sure if there is a release to resolve it yet or not.

Did you get this resolved? I'm curious to the fix.

I have a guy that ran into this as well. Just within the last week. Too much paper in tray 1. Machine would read "processing...."

As I mentioned in the original post....the problem was fixed performing the fax RAM clear. The idea is that a solution like RAM clear is not all the time the best choice from the customer point of view. It's sometimes difficult to convince the customer to get rid of all the faxes from the machine memory...some of them could be very important documents and time sensitive.
So..yeah...the only solution that works in a scenario like that one presented is RAM clear and reinitialize it.
