you've got to set it in the printer driver properties-printing preferences.

Every printer driver has 2 different settings. 1 is for local user which is currently logged on the pc ( server ) that's the "Printing preferences" in General Tab. 2nd one is located in Advanced Tab as Printing Defaults. Printing defaults is default setting for all users in the network environment. SO if you want to setup BW as default, just RMB on printer icon > properties > Advanced > Printer defaults and change mode to BW.

RPCS driver has more limitations ( you can restrict color mode, trays, job type, etc.) .

I suggested to create user code for per user, or create a user code when print colors ( this might be a easiest way).

Just a slight bit of info you might want. I had set printer drivers to be set as black and white.

Anyways some of Corels software totally ignores your color preferences in your drivers. Discovered this after some troubleshooting and talking to Savin/Ricoh. There is a check box in the corel software under a tab in the print window when you select File/Print you have to check it EACH time. It is buried so a pain in the ass. The customer didn't want user codes. So I just installed a similar Serious Drivers that can only do B&W and set it as the Default Printer. Customer wants color they have to manually select it.

Didn't know you could limit it from the Advanced tab under printers. Does that stop color printing completely?

                user codes

                Hi

user codes could sort out problem to print in color ( quite difficult to set up ). but the main problem is , if you restrict color mode for some users and you give pin codes to them they will be able print in color. But what if standard user with no pin code print document in color print job will be canceled. Tested. I have many experience with installing and restricting users to print in color. Some applications ( customized Microsoft Access ) has same problem as the Corel one.
Basically if you want print in BW only just install RPCS, go to printing preferences and change settings you want to use than go to advanced tab > limitations and select BW Only. User will have only BW option.
IF user ( customer ) also want to print in color, just make new printer queue for color only!

I would agree with the last comment as we now set up two drivers. One locked on B/W using limitaion function in advanced options on RPCS and set as default and one as colour, this makes the customer have to make a decision if colour is required.
Copiers are only as good as there last service
