Ricoh 2228 color machine is this a good one?

I rent most of my machines. Have about 75 ricoh's 1022/2022/27's on rent now. Need to start renting a color unit. Looking at this machine. Could someone please tell me if it's a reliable unit. Runs and does not need a lot of maintance in between regular preset service. This for you help! Howard

Decent machines if you keep them clean. Consumables usually last beyond rating. Some minor issues, but overall good copy quality and reliability.
Don't take that toner with me!

There were the first machines I really started working on in any detail and they are very reliable, and very predictable. Drums and developer are all in one units for each: just re-set the PM counter, install, and re-start the machine. Fuser oil and the waste bottle are both user replaceable and easy to do.
About the only complaint from the customer may be how long it takes to do process control first thing in the morning and after coming out of energy saver, but for the consistency of the colour output it's a very good trade off.
Just remember though that some of the firmware is different for the 28 page a minute machinr than for the 32 and 38 page versions.

Good machine. If was well maintained you will be happy with it. Easy to do service/maintainance . It's calibrating itself pretty often and takes a longer time to load the toner when you replace the cartridges (compared with the new models), but a smart design (in my opinion).
I think you did some research and you have all the details about this model. If not here are some characteristics:
        B190
        Average monthly volume 8K
        Max. monthly volume 50K

Configuration can include: 2 tray finisher, booklet finisher, a multi bin tray, 2000 sheets LCT, 2 extra trays (2 x 500 sheets), JBIG Option, hand set, Fax Ink Stamp, Wireless LAN, USB 2.0, IEEE 1394, MLB 2.

PM cycle is every 72K for dev units, 54K for PCU and fuser ,18K for oil supply and 36K-40K for wasted toner...of course at 5% coverage, Letter paper LEF, and 30% color ratio.
Hope it will help you to decide.

...and it looks that it's worth it...right? I mean you don't have a high service cost
