If you scan a document in as a PDF, will it be searchable? Or how is that done?

Do you mean storing it on a pc/file server?
From what I've seen, there is not a way that a machine will formally 'index' anything, but there would be plenty of document management software that will index the scans with a pre-defined indexing method, numeric or by folder selected or other means.
If anyone knows any additional tricks to index a scan other than manually changing the filename first, then hopefully they'll chime in.
I was referring to something like this:
Orion ScanIT for MS SharePoint 2003 and 2007, scan all your documents into MOSS / SharePointBachelor of Science in Information Technology, Comptia A+, Comptia Network+ -
What I mean is that some PDFs can be searched for the data that is on the inside. Looking for the word "pizza" for instance, not the file name.
I have the feeling that if the PDF is created from a text doc then converted to a PDF it would be searchable. But if the PDF is created by a scan then not so.sigpic

You would need to use software like Acrobat Professional to run optical character recognition to make the PDF searchable.
Hopefully in the future Ricoh MFDs will have enough onboard processing power to produce searchable PDFs without the need of client or server side software.- Knowledge not shared, is eventually knowledge that becomes lost... like tears in the rain.
