    Lanfax m8 issues

I have a mp5500 at a customers office where they are using XP Pro at each workstation. I have it set up using TCP/IP connection from each workstation, so they are not using a server. All functions, ie printing and scanning work fine. However, we can't get LANFAX to work. It worked fine at the office before the machine left. When trying to lanfax a document, it acts like it is spoooling the job very quickly about 15 times and then says failed to print. The only difference I can think of in the machine itself from the shop setup is that sp5801-010 & 011 memory clear was performed to allow us admin access for onsite setup.
There is obviously something we are missing. Can anyone think of something that would cause this? I have researched this forum for all lanfax advice and none of it helped this probem. We are using version 1.59 on winxp pro. Any thoughts are appreciated. Honestly, this is the first time I've had to deal with lanfax, so I'm kind of in uncharted territory here.

The only issue I've had with the LAN-fax is that the driver installer uses the LPT1-port for default instead of a TCP/IP-port.

Are they using the BUILT in Coversheet Feature? If so that comes with 6 Samples. It took me a while to figure this out. The FIRST 3 are A4, the Second 3 are letter. If they are attaching a coversheet and its A4 it would not send the Fax but just crap out and fail.

No coversheets wre being sent. We eventually just ended up sending them through another machine. Even though the original problem was not solved, it is now not an issue and the customer is happy. Happy is good.

Happy is Good, though I'd love to know what made it spool like that. Hmmm.

              Hi,

Have the clients used the right version of the LAN Fax driver? I had a situation were i had loaded the wrong version of LAN Fax driver and it seemed to have worked but the faxes never went through.. i know it is slightly different as your problem indicates that it does fail..

The port should be the same one as used for printing to the machine. And double check the right version of the LAN Fax driver as ScoobySteve suggested.

Relax! This firmware injection won't hurt...but it will take 45 minutes.

I can't imagine getting the port or the driver wrong. I always use the CD/Downloads from Savin.com And since he's direct IP should be in the drop down list of ports of the IP he's already printing to via the PCL driver.

The port was correct and the latest driver was used. We had no problem sending through another machine. It had to be a setting in the machine itself that was incorrect. I may never know, now.

                      Hello,

(While googling to find a solution to my issue, I found this post...)

First of all I have to say I'm not a Fax Technicien, I'm using them. I'm from an IT department... I never setup a Ricoh machine before today.

I'm trying to setup an XP workstation to work with Ricoh Lan Fax. The Ricoh and the workstation are connected by tcp/ip..

I installed the very latest version of Fax Lan (1.60). I already found after driver installation that it used LPT1 by default. I create a new port and define a tcp/ip and connected to the Ricoh. I'm using the machine netword name. I have a network printer define on that workstation connected to the same network name, and I can print on it.

Anyway, when I try to fax a document nothing happens. I do not have any error message on the PC nor the copier.

Is there anything to do on the Ricoh machine or on the XP machine in order to fax?
Are the default XP driver options correct?
Is there somewhere an installation and setup document for the Lan Fax driver?

Thanks in advance for your help.

                      Philippe

                        Hi, Philippe,

Are you using the correct driver for your MFP? In your post you did not mention which model machine you have.

If you tell me which model, I can verify for you.

I do know that using the wrong driver will result in just what you are getting - nothing.

If you go to the Ricoh site and download the fax driver for your machine, you should get the right one. In the past, you got ALL the fax drivers, and you needed to know which fax board you had: M8, L3, etc...That got changed some time ago, at least on the US site. (It was quite a pain...)

It looks like you are setting it up right; just point it to a standard printer port like any print driver - there's nothing magic to do.

The only option that I can think of is where you can check "hard drive". Sometimes that populates automatically, sometimes not. Check this box if you know that your machine has a hard drive in it.

                        Regards,
                        Ken

                          Thanks for the reply.

The situation is bit complicated... The fax machine is 400km from my office. I set up the PC by remote

The machine is a Aficio MP C2500. I have downloaded and installed the "lan_fax.exe" found on the page web page dedicated to this copier.

So, if I understand well, there is nothing to specify within the copier itself to enable lan fax, isn't it ?

I think will ask to a Ricoh Specialist to take a look at the machine, He knows what he is doing, I don't

Edit: The issue is solved. When I create the "port", I used the network name of the copier. Apparently you have to use the IP address instead.

                          Thanks for your help.
