Ricoh 1515, Lanier ldo15 false doc feed jam

Based on where it was at I did not want to waste a lot of time on it before I found out if it is a common or simple problem. The machine will scan the document and while making the copy it then shows a false jam in the document feeder that the machine has to be rebooted to clear. If I lay it on the glass, it thinks it was in the document feeder and shows the same jam while spitting out a blank sheet. The document feeder is not retracting the pick up rollers after feeding. If you leave the lid up, it will scan from the glass and make a copy. Thanks in advance for any help.

Just a shot in the dark from what you described... It sounds like you have a problem with the document set sensor.
It thinks there is a document on the feed tray all the time. A jam would not clear if the sensor it thinks there is still paper present and would try to feed from the DF even when you place something on the glass.

Bad sensor, damaged sensor arm, pinched wire...something along that line.

    Good luck.

Relax! This firmware injection won't hurt...but it will take 45 minutes.

That is logical and something I had assumed, but I did not want to waste my time and find out it was a board. I guess from the lack of responses, it must not be that common of a problem.

The paper present sensor is in a little hole on that one and I have seen them fill with paper dust and give false readings.
