    Ricoh 550 low toner density

Some of you may remember I had trouble with this pig a few months ago. It was poping sc302 codes. (charge current). Anyway ever since then I have been seeing low dev density. I have tried cleaning the ID sensor. I have forced toner and cycled the power hoping it would set-up.
Can someone explain the relationships and service codes so I don't have to change the dev?

x 2 It sounds like the dv is shot.

Have you cleaned out the recycling, waste, and supply system pipes and coil?

Have a bell ringing in the back of my head saying "check the bias bearing"....

As I recall, these were the last machines with single dev bias contact bearing in the rear frame. This was quite small and used to fail.

Pull the dev unit and check for wear annd / or rust on the bias contact pin, this is a sure sign that the bearing has collapsed.

If you find the bearing is defective and the bracket requires replacement, be sure to scratch around the profile before removal as the bracket is adjustable and must be positioned correctly when replaced.

          service program settings and values

This unit is really a Savin 9965 DP. The book I have is for a ricoh 550. I seem to recall when I went to school that the first hour or so was spent fixing errors in the Pubs. Is it possible that I have some misprints in my book?
Here is a list of what seems like relevent settings and values of service program addresses
          SP-2209 TONER ADD TIME 900 MG/S
          SP-2906 VCONT MAN 10.Ov
          SP-2220 VREF 2.52
          SP 2223 VT DISPLAY 2.72
          SP- 3103 VSG- 3.88
          VSP- 1.72
I hope this helps. If someone has time, would you explain the relationships between these settings and values. It would help me understand what is going on. Ther is only 156K on the dev. It should be ok.

give that tech a cigar. forgot about that one too. seems the concensus is 2 chng dev and reset. make sure u cln dev tank thouroughly and ck that bearing. is amazing how we forget these things eh? start out fresh(yep theres BLACK GOLD in them there mag rollers) reprogram and ajust your settings from there.
