    4000/5000 "best" machine ever

    Let me start my saga...
I know it's another huge thread about this piece of art but I decided that a fresh thread about this puppy won't hurt.
So...I received a call today about Auto Paper Select feature that was not working properly.
    First machine is located near a huge window...so I said to myself...an easy one....but today I learned something....never...ever underestimate a 4000/5000
OK...Auto Paper Select didn't work ONLY for 8.5x14"....neither through ADF neither from the main glass. For any other formats (8,5x11 and 11 x 17" APS worked fine).
I disconnected the ADF to isolate the problem...same thing.
When I tried to force the machine to pick the right paper from a dedicated tray a message told me to add 8,5 x 14" in the tray (tray was full and was detected properly until I touched the start button).
I checked all the sensors in the DF responsible for original length/width detection...all of them are working.
I cleaned all of them and cleaned the "black felt" under the sensors. After this procedure and after I cleaned the sensors under the main glass...the machine start to act differently.
Now I can use the ADF or main glass if I'm selecting the dedicated tray for 8,5x14"...So the "add 8,5x14" paper in tray #" dissapeared and the machine will perform the requested action: copy.
SMC report doesn't show any codes and the machine has only 42K so less the 2 months in the field.
I'm thinking to back with new firmware and a lot of patience...
    Anybody saw something similar?

Well if it was working before new firmware won't fix it. However reloading firmware may fix corrupted Firmware. Have you tried Formatting the HD? This actually has fixed paper try selection issues for me.

May need a memory clear on the copy app.

Sort of, i had it on a mp 2510 (i Think) where the document would feed part of the way in and stop and ask for the correct paper even though it was on aps etc - same as on the glass.

Mine was easy enough as the customer had gone into user tools and messed about with the aps settings - trouble is i cant remember what i done to correct it so its not much help to you.

Holding # while selecting Copy under user tools will prompt you to reset to factory defaults. Have had to do that before lol

Thus fixing the corrupted firmware by replacing with new firmware. Gotcha.

I was really surprised to obtain a fix for my problem from a firmware update but I did. It looks like they start working and fixing the damn firmware of this machine. I just finish this call when 2 of my coworkers called me regarding another 5000...
It does not recognize the SD card even this model does not need one, the printer scanner features are embedded...so no SD card for this model....
screen is blank so they have fun with it.
A TSB is available for SD card problem and SC 866 but is related to the non SP models...
Can you belive how "old" is this machine in the field.....177 copies.
It's a good training to become a better tech or to kill for good many good neurons. Lucky us that parts are not problem
