    Sr 790 (b408) stapling

    Hi, guys & gals,
I have a sr790 finisher on a MPC2500. The stapling function works OK when copying from the machine, but not when printing from a PC. It doesn't even try to staple. Stapled documents sent were from excel and word. We are using the pcl5c driver. The finisher has been added on the pc configuration and is recognized. You can select the job to be stapled, but it doesn't staple.
I used the search and read the posts on 790 stapling malfunctions, but this kind of problem was not covered. All the machine firmware is up to date, but I don't know about the finisher firmware. I am looking at the diagnostic report and the finisher Rom # is B4085160 with no firmware level listed. Could this be the problem? I do not have any finisher firmware.

That is odd for no Firmware to be listed for the Finisher. I'd reflash the firmware. Also what app are they selecting staple from? If its a Corel product, that could be a problem as well.

      Two thoughts come to mind.....

      1. You are setting the stapling up at the time of print and selecting print properties as opposed to going to the printers folder and setting the properties there?

      2. Is the copier printing on paper of the proper orientation to allow stapling at the right location on the paper? Auto tray selection -could- let the copier choose an inappropriate tray. Not saying that its right, only that it could happen.

It is 12:40 on 6-12-09 and my boss is headed to the account right now. I'll post progress made on this problem, if any.

only for the RPCS driver, and it greys out the staple option on the print properties screen in the driver - PCL and PS should still try to staple, unless your printing defaults contradict stapling for some reason. The print spooler section of the HDD being corrupted could also cause this.

                Paper type mismatch

Check to see if your trays have been assigned a paper type eg. letterhead, thick paper. A paper type mismatch could cause this!

Maybe to simple... but is the customer trying to staple more pages fromthe computer than the finisher is rated for?

Relax! This firmware injection won't hurt...but it will take 45 minutes.

In the past it usually staples the max amount and continues and staples the rest. I personally think It should pop an error saying can't staple this many pages or something, but most Savins I've dealt with will staple the max even though it may not be your entire set lol.

I haven't had the specific problem that you're facing. However, I have run into problems where some some settings within the word/excel conflict with driver. This maybe adding to a previous post.

                        Go to user tools.

Go to user tools, printer features, system , turn off sub paper size and auto continue and send the same print job. If there is an issue with wrong orientation, paper type, size the MFP's panel should light up red and advise you to load the correct eg. size. This might help you get to the bottom of this problem. Remember to turn on the settings afterwards.

                          Problem solved

Ricoh just released a new driver on 10-21-09 (PCL6 for universal printing) and I installed it yesterday. It took care of the stapling problem. This has been an unresolved issue for a while now. I wonder how many dissatisfied customers there are because Ricoh dragged their feet on addressing this problem?
