Can I scan with a 2018d in vista?

Ok I admit it I am clueless, that is why I have a service contract!. I upgraded my computer last summer to a vista business machine. before that I could scan to PDF no problem. The tech spent 4 hours with the new machine never got it to work. told me he had to do some research. a month goes buy I call him and he says that they are not compatable and that I need to wait until Vista fixes its problems or a firmware upgrade from ricoh. anyway I was using a next door machine and now they moved out so I really need it to work. he still say's it still won't work. that my only option is that I need to set up a seperate computer in XP as a server.... which I will do if I have to....but now he can't find some software to make that work (lite??)

can anyone give me the straigt story.... really RICOH -SCAN is not compatable with VISTA? no workaround after a whole year?

There have been no updates to that copier firmware since it is so old. Ricoh 2018/Savin 4018 is 4 generations old now I think.

Is the Site for Scanrouter Lite which has to be downloaded and installed. HOWEVER, you are using VISTA, I am not sure if this is compatible. I've not tested it yet.

You can always try to scan-to-email. A lot easier to set up.

When you use scan-to-email the machine sends the scan as an attachment to an email adress. The scanner reference manual explains how to set up this configuration. You don't need to install software to make this work.

And... the Aficio 2018 is not the latest model, that's for sure, but if it can do the job, why not use it. I have a lot of customers who are still using this machine.

So 2 years old isn't old for a copier unless its been pounded to hell and back.

I like the 2018 so its a good machine. No worries mate. We have some who still use it. Long as they are low volume that machine will last them a while. Now the Aficio 1018 which was the generation before yours is definitely feeling old. Lots of issues with plastic becoming brittle as that one has aged. But that is from 2001.... AKA 8 year old machine.

found the scanner manual at ricoh and looked up the scan to email function

that looks easy enough although will take much longer and require extra steps

my only concern is the size of the files, email tends to kick large files.

will be a lot of extra work for large files

sure was nice when I could walk up to my copy machine... push a couple of buttons and poof my scan was on my hard drive.... just amazed that it was not made compatable with Vista... I can't be the only sap that has this problem.

Very Common Problem. At Vista launch I think Machines 2 years and older weren't given updates.
