I still think it's a drum problem (drum, flaky drum ground, etc)----any bets? This could be a good one to see what is causing this problem.

They are not the worst machines, but I didn't think that they really were built so well to "cleanly" get to 10+ million. I thought that in the 4-6 million range, they started to become a pain in the ass.

I think that they want to be Docutechs when they grow up, but still have their training wheels on.

yap i also bet on the drum if we are reffering to the image that was originally post... it looks like the scratch is from a wornout development seals... but as stated in the other case new drum and still have problem, i'll go for a charge assy, but some cases arching was on transfer belt, frame or brush... haven't experience on dev unit... and a dev unit replacement every 600K copies is really pain in the ass.... hope to solve this prob and keep us update...

It was about 7M that I started seeing mine a lot more frequently, and we finally got to replace it at about 11M. I was getting ready to do a frame up field recon on it and replace all the plastic gears, worn bushings, and so-forth when I got the word it was on its way out. These machines really aren't bad considering the generation, and price compared to the competition. The Pro series are much improved, but still have the occasional personality disorder.

We have a Ricoh 2090 that started having tone marks on the operators side of the machine. The first 10 copies out of the machine are fine but it starts toning on one side. We have installed a new transfer belt , a new drum blade, new developer, and it has a fairly new drum. When we pull the drum unit out it is covered in toner. We have to clean it often.
We also have lowered the toner supply rate.
I have attached a copy of what it looks like after about 50 copies.
Any ideas?

Check the resistance between the flywheel and the drum earth bearing terminal (Pull the drum unit before testing) If the reading fluctuates when you turn the flywheel, the drum shaft bearing is US. Remove the cover from the bearing in the hub. (I think) there is a contact spring inside, clean and replace this, then recheck the reading. If ok this may provide at least a temp cure. Replace the Hub.

Also make sure the doctor blade is clean.
