main power button on op panel won't come on

    Hey everyone....
I am working on a ricoh mpc4500 (there may be other models with this problem)
when the copier goes into sleep mode you can not touch the main power switch on the op panel and get the machine to wake up. Only if you put something in the df, open/close the df or print to it will it wake up. As to date we have replaced the entire op panel and controller. Anyone else ran across this problem? Don't think it has anything to do with the current bullet on the touch panel as when I do a calibration test all works fine.

    .....Help!!!!!

Does it wake up if you press the Energy Saver button? I'm thinking this is normal operation. The machine is still on, just sleeping....waiting for some action like setting a document. Pressing the Main Power button would be like you wanted to turn it off.

Maybe I'm crazy...I'll check some of mine to see.

Relax! This firmware injection won't hurt...but it will take 45 minutes.

Agree with Kat, most of these don't come out of Energy Saver by hitting the Green Start Button. You have to raise the Lid/ADF or sit paper in the ADF Feed,

i agree also.. i guess its just normal... i'll verify this one also and play at user tools...
fix the customer first then fix the machine... its simple and makes life more easy.

From the SM: Section 6.11.7 Energy Saver Modes

          Return to stand-by mode
The machine returns to stand-by mode if one of the following is done:
          • The Clear Mode/Energy Saver Mode key is pressed
          • Any key on the operation panel or touch panel screen is pressed
          • An original is placed in the ADF
          • The ADF is lifted

The return time from the panel off mode is less than 30 seconds.

Nothing about the main power switch. Your machine is behaving normally. You have been chasing a ghost.

NO-NO-NO I think we are misunderstanding

Everyone I am saying this.....If the machine goes into sleep mode or if you are (properly) shutting the machine down You can not touch the main power button (upper right corner of op panel) and get it to respond. Holding it for 3 sec to shut the machine down or to bring it back up it will not respond at all. Calibration shows ALL other op panel keys working fine. I am currently at another machine of the same model and I can hold the main power button down and fire the machine up and then bring it back to stand by mode (green light flashing)

Hope this clears it up as to what I was posting

Communication errors happen a lot here. I understand now what you mean.

I would reload all the firmware and check all the connections from the ops panel back to the controller.

After rereading your post I see that you have replaced the entire op panel. I suppose it is possible that the power switch on the OP-R PCB on this one could be bad also. A shot in the dark.

                    found the problem

pinched wire and a broken wire in the harness of op panel. repaired broken wire and machine now shuts off when you push the button.
                    Thanks everyone!!!!
