Check the laser power settings on the SMC report.

SC990 is a software performance error and can happen when a reading goes "out of spec". It is possible for the laser diodes to get dirty if the machine has been puffing toner, this will cause the laser power to increase to the maximum and produce both SC990 and SC322 (?)

There are other things, which can cause the same code, and I'm sure these will be mentioned in due course!

If he machine runs dirty around the toner hopper / dev unit and the front of the laser unit is dirty, change the filters between the toner hopper / dev unit / PCU to ensure a good seal and prevent the laser diode board becoming covered in toner before changing the laser diode board.

Sir regarding with your problem no need to upgrade the firmware if you change already the drum unit you follow the procedure on how to initialized the id,change the default setting of your charging but you must clean the id sensor before you intialized your problem its solve ok

Is this the one with the Door Switches that cause the 990 or is it the 991 when toner gets in them. Gotta clean that area, replace them and the seals/covers. Was a Bulletin on it.. or I may be thinking wrong machine.. Savin man not a Ricoh man

Replacing the LD Board fixed it for one of our customers. Savin First told us ok. Update Firmware, Do PM. We did .. No change.. Replaced Door Switches. NO change.. Finally replaced LD Board (yaknow tiny board on side of LD unit) And it fixed it.. All I can guess is toner on the board at one point shorted things out or the Tech Vaccummuning the machine vacced around that board. Yeah he admitted he did.. Vac, toner, boards = bad lol

As mentioned by TSC04 check the laser power settings on the smc report, if they are high, it is likely that the door switches near the fuser are full of toner and need replacement. Not hard to do and a cheap fix.

                          Something odd here.

The last time I looked, the link didn't work for me, either. The link was shown as unformatted text unlike the pretty formatted hyperlink I see now.
