Scan to Folder with DFS Savin c4535

    Hi,

I work for a large organization that has multiple Microsoft file servers. The File servers are using a DFS Distributed File system namespace to point to departmental Shared folders.

So for example the path I might use to access a dept share is:
    \\dfsname\share$\accounting$
This points to the target server that might be:
    \\FileServer12\Accounting$

In the Scan to Folder setup, If I enter \\FileServer12\Accounting$ it works fine. If I enter \\dfsname\share$\accounting$ it does not work and errors after the status says "waiting" for a long time. I tried using the FQDN and same error.

Is there a way to get the scan to folder to work with DFS?

I don't want to have to change the path on hundreds of scanners when we migrate the file servers to a new environment where the server names will all be changing. We may have to change this once, but i don't want to have to in the future.

    May be wrong!

I believe that I have read somewhere in these forums that Ricoh doesn't support DFS scanning. As the username and password needs to be sent twice for this to work and our devices only send it once. May be wrong but Im sure someone will correct me

      You are correct:

Relax! This firmware injection won't hurt...but it will take 45 minutes.

You should have globalscan so you don't have to manage hunderds of devices individually.

          Agree'd!

Remember, Scan to Folder, using SMB, is basic and it works great in I would say 90% of the environments we go into. mjzraz, what you have is a very high end scanning environment that needs to treated differently and basic just isn't going to cut it anymore.

Think of trying to run a peer to peer network with 100 PC's and a few laptops. With no servers at all, it could still be done, but it would be a true pain in the butt! Same thing here, as you have found, basic scanning works, but it's going to be a pain in the butt to manage in the long term. Adding GlobalScan will give you the specialized options you need to make your life and the end users life easier.

Ok, I'm going to stop now... I sound like a salesman.

The first law states that energy is conserved: The change in the internal energy is equal to the amount added by heating minus the amount lost by doing work on the environment.

            eCopy Sharescan

Whats your opinion on eCopy sharescan as an alternative. From what I've seen it looks great.

I went to school on it last year. eCopy is awesome and very very flexible, just pricey as heck. Grant it, I have never sat down to compare the two (GlobalScan vs eCopy ShareShare). Bear in mind that each has different variations, that I won't get into them here, but I do know that there are far more variations of GS compared to eCopy.
