    NIS2009 and ScanRouter

    Hi All,

I've just been to a Ricoh MFD that runs ScanRouter V2 Lite for scanning. the client is running WinXP Pro with NIS2009.

I've allowed access for all processes inside the "c:\program files\RDS" folder and i've also created a trust control between the MFD ip address and the PC address. This rule has been placed at the top of the list so that any other rules dont deny it.

I'm able to browse and find the device and register it via the "Select I/O Device" option. The MFD is receiving the IP address of the PC hosting Scanrouter as displayed by the "Delivery Server" settings. However, the MFD never actually gets the address book of scanner users. An "update destination" does NOT prove to be fruitful either giving me an error.

I've checked the NIS2009 Log and it says that "c:\program files\rds\ddsschednt.exe" has tried to access some sort of NIS process and NIS2009 has blocked it. I've done a little look on my friend "GOOGLE" and it says that it is the NIS Tamper Protection software kicking in as it suspects that ddsschednt.exe is trying to modify a NIS file.

Anyone know how i can get around it? I dont know why ddsschednt.exe would even need to access a NIS2009 file however i'm assuming NIS2009 must be taking over a default windows file that ddschednt.exe needs and thinks that this file belongs to it.

Anyone know what i can do next? any suggestions?

Two choices...get rid of that Norton crap

    OR

    Try opening TCP Port 3670
    sigpic

Relax! This firmware injection won't hurt...but it will take 45 minutes.

I would love to remove Nortons but try telling that to the client when its a brand new pc with a brand new subscription Nortons.

by the way, i did open port 3670 but only on the windows firewall - i know nortons will take over and make the windows firewall ineffective but i thought i'll do it there anyway.

When i made the trust rule in NIS2009 , i allowed all ports to be available. Do you think i may have be specific?

Is it possible to temporarily stop the Norton services, in order to prove that's the problem?

If you can verify that's the issue, then you may want to check the Symantec database for any answers.

        Worth a shot, anyway...

I've disabled the nortons and windows firewall but from my experiencing, even by disabling the firewall, it still seems to have some processes that run that still can cause communication problems.

I know if i tried to stop the nortons firewall via task manager i will get a "access is denied" message, which is actually a good thing - you wouldnt want viruses being able to stop your antivirus so easily.

I havent tried starting and stopping via the services.msc to see if it will allow me stop the firewall completely.

the funning thing is, the client has a laptop which he was using as the host pc for scanrouter before the new PC. The MFD connects to this laptop without issue (after having zonealarm firewall configured of course) - by the way, i did have the scanrouter software on this laptop suspended as well as having the MFD removed from its I/O list before I tried re-adding the MFD to the new install of scanrouter on the PC.

So it basically means cabling, routing, router firewalls etc should all be ok.

            What is the Ricoh Model?

I know this may be of no use but if its a fairly new MFP it may not be supported by Scanrouter Lite. The fact that it works on another laptop would indicate that this is not the case though.
