Savin 4022sp touch screen display problem

This Savin 4022sp's touch screen display has a problem where there is a blacked out bar running up & down the left side of the display. This happens approx 5 mins after the display comes on. I attached (hopefully) a pic of what it looks like. Anybody know if this can be repaired, or does the display have to be replaced?

Not actually seeing this problem myself, I would probably do a few simple things, like reseat all of the connectors related to the op panel, update the firmware, and do a touch screen calibration.

If that does not fix it, I would try to do a quick op panel swap, as even with my above suggestions it still may be a flaky board. The other thing it could be is a bad touch panel itself, and the board is actually ok. Maybe someone hit the panel out of frustration.

I'm sure someone else has seen a problem like this on their adventures in the field.

B1015257-Precision Roller has it for about 450.00 (this looks like the part.)

I guess I've been lucky because I worked on a lot of these and I have never seen this problem. I did have a 3035 freeze up though, and that was the only series that I saw with a somewhat common touch screen problem. The part is a bit costly for an older box.

I called a place to get a price on the touch screen and was told that the part is classified as a manufacturers defect by Ricoh and that I could get it free from them. We shall see...

Hell, even better. Hopefully they'll follow-through on it. I must have been REALLY LUCKY that I didn't see this manufacturer problem.

Jomama is correct - the defect is in the touch panel overlaying the LCD only. Ricoh has been shipping big boxes of these touch panels to their direct service outlets (not sure about dealers) to preemptively replace them, as they will all fail eventually. The actual display LCD underneath is not affected, and is not part of any defect upgrade that I know of. You'll probably end up replacing either the LCD panel or the LCDC board, but start with Schooltech's advice - it's not going to hurt to check the connections.

One thing we've noticed on the touch screens is that heat and humidity play a BIG part in how fast they fail. The units we have in a customer's office with decent air conditioning almost never have a problem. The units we have waiting for recon in a warehouse even for a short period of time almost always have to have the panel updated. Mississippi heat and humidity can be brutal, and our warehouse is not climate controlled... perhaps the 'skeeters are having an effect as well - the little bastards around here could probably punch a hole all the way through the op panel if they thought there was something there to suck on.

I agree. The display is the problem, not the touch screen. And there is a touch screen replacement available for certain models. I'm a Lanier guy, not sure what it crosses too.

I messed around with it last night but was unable to fix it based on reseating connectors, etc. I'm sure its the LCD. Does anyone know how to swap that out? The LCDC board screws to the screen so that is no problem, but the connectors from the other boards and the LCD won't come out...

If you're talking about the ribbon connectors, there is a little lock on the edge of the connector that slides out to unlock the ribbon. You might have to use a mag glass to see it for the first time. It can be unlocked with a fingernail.

And be careful not to knock those little locks off. If you do, and its not broken, you can snap them back in. Sometimes the regular connectors are hard to get out too, but they will come out.

BTW, does anyone have any suggestions where to buy the LCD? I called one place and they wanted $429...seems way too high...
