SC-547 this has nothing to do with fusing??? Why is it given an "A" level rating??? Explain Zero Cross Signal Malfuntion and how it can damage the copier. Thanks!!!

It does have something to do with fusing! The machine uses phase control to control the fusing lamp. The machine uses triacs to do this. When you want to use phase control, the machine has to know when the (AC) voltage crosses the zero. When it can not detect the crossing for some reason (defective power supply?) phase control can not take place and the machine generates an SC which you have to reset in SP-mode.

So the fuser unit would have nothing to do with code??? What about the connection between copier and fuser(the plug in contact)??? I ask because when I went out to the copier I could not get the code to reset. I pulled the fuser unit out checking for opens in lamp, thermal fuse, and thermistor. All checked good. Re-installed the fuser and did reset and it worked. Then I cleaned the connection between copier and fuser. Any additional thoughts???
      Thanks!!!

If the machine displays an SC547, and has level K firmware or higher, the SC can be cleared by turning the main switch off and back on. Maybe you didnt power cycle the machine the first time.

In my experience, I have only run across 2 causes of SC547- Power supply unit defective, and issues with frequency at the wall outlet (which can take out the power supply also.) Majority for me have been frequency issues.

Short story- Frequency being out of spec CAN cause phase to be abnormal, which in turn CAN cause fuser temps to be out of spec (usually accompanied by SC54? blown thermal fuse along with the SC547). This is also hard on the triacs on the power supply, which CAN cause power supply to go bad. Depends on the severity of the frequency issue.

It cannot damage the machine at all

This machine has a firmware update for SC 547 to can be reset only turning off and on the machine, and in the new firmware has a new system reading for the temperature for this code to not be gained more frequently.

The SC is gained because of power supply fluctuation and it cannot in no way to damage the machine. The fluctuation is in the city power network (the wall socket).
So the problem can be solved only by update of the firmware on the engine.
