    I think any scanning has to be thru a network, not USB.

        Agree with previous posts : scanning -> Network.
        Printing -> USB/Network.

          Thanks for your replies....its one of those when some one tells you the answer you realise that some where in the past you was told or read it some where and the penny drops...must be old age creeping up on me.
          Thanks again.

              I would think Crossover would work. Set Static Ip's on Copier and Desktop Though

                I've never actually tried it but a crossover cable should work. Set Fixed IPs for both.

                Edit" oops, Vulcor, you dog, you are too quick for me.

                  Most newer NICs have the ability to "auto sense" whether the connection in the cable need to be crossed over or not.

                  So if you don't have a crossover cable handy, try it with a straight through first. If it fails, you won't damage anything.

                  Trying to find "ready made" crossover cables is getting harder and harder.

                  When you do find one, expect to pay considerably more for it.

                  Hopefully, you either already have one, or have the tools to make your own.

                      I'd really be surprised though if Savin/Ricohs were on that Autosensing Bandwagon. Not had too much luck with built in Mobo nics either.

                        Sorry, I should have specified that I was referring to the NIC in the PC, not the MFP.

                        I know that the past few generations of Dell notebooks and desktops have had this ability. I'm sure that others have, as well. (We're pretty much an all-Dell shop.)

                        I have a Dell Latitude D610 notebook, and I stopped using a crossover some years ago. I carry one for emergencies, though.

                        In fact, the only time I have needed one in recent memory was to replace a bad one between a Fiery and MFP. Those must be crossovers.
