    MP4000 miracle

Today I went to a MP4000 they called for the web end. When I get there I discover the PCDU has never been touched. The drum had the white bands on the ends like the old 35's would get when people didn't do pm's. It has to be a miracle. The copies still looked ok even.

So I put a web in and rebuilt the PCDU with a new dev unit. Now I probably jinxed it and they will have cq problems

Those web units are unnecessarily complex. We got a whole unit for speed and because people keep breaking off the brittle web end feeler arm. I then change the web in the workshop.

I don't see why they can't make them from the bendy plastic used for sensor actuators!

          A few fixes...

The MP4000 has a few updates that you should be made aware of. First of all, the web end issue is caused by a counting problem in older versions of the firmware. This can be corrected by updating to the latest firmware, but you may have to record/reenter an approximation of the correct web-used percentage in SP Modes.
Also, there have been several problems with the developer units on this model. Light copies and white banding can occur. There is an updated developer that can be purchased (nothing like eating the cost for Ricoh's mistake).
Hopefully this helps with your problems and a few others too!

That's an updated developer unit, not developer - not the cause though, they have new toner. It has a new EDP so you won't get it unless you use the new code.

I guess I misspoke. While you are correct that there is an updated toner (EDP 841346), that is not what I was referring to. The part I intended to address is the updated developer base unit - original #: D0093010 new #: D0092301

Latest firmware available will fix the web abnormal rotation problem. Why they created 2 web cleaning modes for this model only engineers will know. Program A & B with different idle mode cleaning scheme completed with a firmware that was with problems since day 1.
Until now from over 15 units "patched" with the new toner / dev. unit combination only 1 (one) give me a relatively good feedback...rest of them...crap. Quality is shitty after 45-50 K.
My personal opinion is that is not a design issue or mag roller coating how they mentioned...it's pure QC in China on the production line...Why all recent launched models...color or BW have charge rollers issues and dev& toner issues????
If you have feedback from the field about 4000/5000 "mod" with the new toner/dev unit's please post your opinion.
