    LD328c weird colored lines..

I got a full colored multi-functional Lanier copier i'm working with that are coming up with strange colored lines. Here's the thing. These lines only happen when i'm running 11x17 cardstock and they run from the top to bottom of the 11x17 page (If I run regular 11X17 paper these lines seem not to show up). Its usually only like 2 to 3 lines. This is on like a full color picture, and the color of the lines are different.. I see a faint yellow line, then a blue line, and then a red line. Most of the time its a blue solid line and a red line that breaks towards the midde of the page and reappears farther down. The distance between the 2 lines seem to be the width of a drum, but like i said they are different colors..

I inspected the drums really closely and I don't see any prominent lines which would have to be running the length of the drum instead of the usual direction. My best guess was the transfer belt which i changed out, but apparently wasn't the problem...

Whats weird like i said is that these lines only show up when you run cardstock through it and are usually on the latter end of the page of an 11x17 paper. So if I run 8 1/2x11 im good.

I'm thinking that unit that makes the color output is frying out. I forgot the name of that unit..

We are printing to the Color copier btw and having these issues. Any help would be much appreciated.

Try the big white drive gears with the tiny teeth. If they get dirt in them the drums stop momentarily. If you are running card stock, the machine runs at a slower speed so may make it show up.

I'm pretty shure it's the transfer unit if the problem only happen with thick paper and if the lines has the different c/m/y.. colors. You can try to disassembly the unit and clean all bias/transport roller and bushings and also clean the transfer belt from the inside (carefully). If the belt itself looks very bad you should replace it but that's done like you said. There's also a bias roller running on the transfer belt where the paper runs in - you may also try to change this one.

Maybe you can supress that symptome generally if you set up the rcps driver with max. dpi resoulution and "thick paper" setting to lower the process speed.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will double check the transfer unit. I know I cleaned the rollers well but the bushings I might have overlooked. Aswell the starting and stopping of the paper on its pass seems to make sense all so. Does the paper actually momentarily stop or pause when running cardstock or is it just running very slow? Either way i'll take a closer look at these things thanks.

when checking the transfer belt and bias rollers, be sure to check the housing itself. Have seen hairline cracks in the plastic cause similar problems. Good luck!

No it's just a slower process speed and probably different voltage settings for the transfer process + a higher fusing temp of course. How much is the paper weight of that cardstock stuff?

Don't forget to check/replace that outer paper-entrance-bias roller I've mentioned - these look really bad when they are getting older and cleaning won't help much. A bad roller can't pre-charge the paper properly what may cause skew and/or paper slipping (what's probably causing these lines).
