    OLD Ricoh 550 with lines

Any assistance on an old Ricoh 550 with thin "pencil' lines about 1 to 2 mm apart across the entire page going from operator to non operator side in copy mode only? Internal prints and prints from PC are fine. The primary technician has replaced the xenon lamp, the wire harness for the lamp, the mylar from a bulletin for the wire harness, and the 2 lamp regulator pcb's.

It looks like you've done some of the scanner parts, but have you tried the lens unit? It sounds like maybe the the ccd is going bad. It's pretty easy to change out.

This is also a component not used when doing an internal print, and you're getting down to finding the problem, so I would probably go here next.

the optics have been cleaned and inspected several times. I have the lens/ccd assembly and the SBICU pcb on order since last week.

Thank you for the input...while I'm waiting for my parts to arrive, any other ideas?

Sounds like laser related to me. The CCD is analogue so I doubt it would cause what you are seeing, your decription sounds like lines in laser main scan. Could be a signal proccessing fault or laser control / polygon motor. Door switches??

This rings a bell but the memory isn't what it used to be!!

It does sound like laser lines, but, it only happens in copy mode, not print from PC or internal print, so that would basically rule out anything except something in the copy optics section. So, with prints not having an issue, I don't think it would be anything with the laser. I'm thinking SBICU because that PCB processes the data from the CCD and sends that info to the laser to write the image.

Thank you for all the input. I don't think it is the laser or laser related items due to the fact that the problem only exists in copy mode. All prints from PC and internal (which utilize the laser) are fine. I am going to see this customer today, I will let everyone know what fixed it if I can repair.
