MPC2500 - real faint all colours

Hi, Ive been working on a faulty MPC2500 that is really faint on ALL colours. Even Black and White is bad. It dosnt matter wether its printing or copying The result is thee same - real faint to the point it can hardly be seen.

The SMC report reads all PCU's are under life, and the transfer cleaning unit was changed about a week ago. At first I thought this may be cleaning the image off the belt. When I stop it mid-process, the image looks perfect on the transfer belt.

I have read a lot about the firmware updates to correct the laser shutter - so I have updated the firmware and even removed the laser shutter altogether. Still no luck.

I believe it to be a problem with the paper transfer / seperation unit. I changed the roller, then the high voltage board feeding it, then I also changed the IOB board as this seems to be the controller on the electrical schematics.

Im starting to run out of ideas - Im sure its the transfer roller not geting the signal to take the toner off the transfer belt. When I run A3 thru and stop it mid way thru the fuser, the fused section is faint and the unfused part is just low density toner - the rest of the toner is left on the belt.

So any help would really be apreciated!

It is probably something with the image transfer unit. This machine repels the toner off the belt onto the paper instead of using a transfer roller to suck it off onto the paper.

I think you have a bad contact between the transfer belt and the machine or between the transfer roller and the machine.

In the end I replaced the entire transfer belt assembly. I couldnt work out which part it was and the customer was getting grumpy. I have the old assy sitting on my workbench so when I have more time Im going to nut it out and use it as a test set. But the new assy works great!

have you tried changing the paper, sometimes this causes bad transfer if it is a little damp.

Well...I had some spare time today and played around with the belt assy a bit more. Turns out there was a hi resistance from the black (transfer?) roller that contacts the paper to the contact in the back of the transfer belt assy.

The bearings in the black roller were knackered and causing a high resistance.
