    Ricoh AP3800c help

    Hi all

I'm hoping some one will have come accross this problem before because its got us and our parent company engineer confused.com

When the bypass tray is used there is a slight smear on the print using paper or 160gsm card, but all the other trays print 100%.

we have a brand new fuser unit in stock so was sugested that could be the problem, but changed and no difference.

Any ideas please will be greatly appreciated

Dont you have to do the fusing set up on the 3800c? check the user manitance guide if its not printed with the fusing unit.Im guessing it doesn't smear before the fusing unit?
I have had problems where the itb on various models whitch use the ITB the belt somehow smears the image either before or just after it leaves. Sometimes Engineers accidently loosen of the tension on the belt drive a screw just near the cleaning unit or more recent versions. It would be fine with single colour and sometimes colour, but if the paper was heavier and thicker the problem was far worse.

Im guessing you have been though the non deafualt settings?

If the normal trays print OK, then the fuser must be OK. Did you specify thick paper for the by-pass in the printer driver? When the printer thinks it's normal paper then it feeds the paper at full speed through the machine while thick paper needs a lower printing speed for better fusing.
