MP5500 toner spillages

We have approx 50 of these machines, mostly in schools. We pm them every 150k, (dev bushings,blade,brush, m/c corona,web,and filters) Thermistors, hot rollers and dev replaced as necessary. Lately quite a few of these babys, the ones with a million plus on the clock are starting to piss toner all over the inside of the door and in the machine, choking up the transfer and pf areas.We have changed the toner recycling units and toner recycling path tubes/gears but it still happens to some degree. Does anybody else get this problem?We didn't have it on the 10/2060's! Or the 551/700's.Thanx

Sounds a bit peculiar. Are you using OEM toner? How often are you replacing the developer? Also, when you initialise the dev, do you keep the front door open to stop the machine running process control? If not, that can screw up the TD sensor values, wrecking the new dev and confusing the piss out of the machine. We replace developer in all Martini's / Mojito's etc at 600k and never have a problem with image quality, some manage 800k.

Yeah we replace the dev at or around 600k, Ricoh toner used and the door is open during sp2801, as i said in the thread, the machines have to be fully operational and are regularly serviced. So I'm rather stumped for the cause of this annoying thing.

I had the same problem. The only thing i could find is that the costomer didn't place the toner in the right way. There's a lot of toner in the bottleholder and leaking nowere else???
It's possible to place the toner in the machine in a way it's not hold by the bottlecap. When i replaced the bottle (the normal way) there was no problem. Some instruction might help.

I saw one of these things today and wondered if it had to do with the foam seal on the front of the bottle holder. Might be worth trying? RG1964 might be bang on though, i went to a Mojito yesterday with the same thing, could be the bottle bung was out of position when the customer removed the toner and it pissed all over the front door.

You are wasting a lot of money there - the schedule is 300k - the old 551/700 was 150k. Ours run right through to PM without having parts inbetween.

These service levels are an agreement between us and the schools, due to the excessive use and abuse they recieve from 50 or 60 teachers. Yhese services are paid for by the customer in their click count cost. So no money is wasted and the machines have very little down time.

Of all the customers I deal with, teachers are by FAR the dumbest users. God help the world if they think they know better than a trained copier technician.

If the machines have over a million on them before crapping out, make sure to check all the bearings and seals in the developer unit, especially if you have a lot of toner in the back of the feed areas as it's probably developer mixture.
Good luck with those school accounts. I used to have a couple of LD090s in schools and wouldn't you know it: the teachers would somehow find a way to damage the metal parts of a machine that was 90% plastic!
