    MP4000 Black Drums

Has anyone else run into new black drums for the B223/224 that has both sides of the connector glued in so that you cannot switch them to make a color drum?

About 1 year ago Ricoh realised what people were doing to save money so they decided to affix the connectors. You can still get get origional 'k' drums modified for colour from ppc products in the uk.

yes of course, as long as you file it far enough. I have experience of the result of a technician trying to force the pcu home having not made the angle correct. What a fucking nightmare, I'd rather be Micheal Jackson's pharmamcist.

We were lucky enough to be able to purchase a MP C4500 that was dammaged in shipping cheap. So I have a socket for the colour PCU's handy to make sure i have filed enough off the connectors on the black PCUs. I can't seem to be able to find an individual part number for them, but if you can find one it sure takes the guess work out of the job.

            LOL

Well I'm using a cutter with a fresh blade to modify the connector. A little pinboard-pin is also handy to peel out the little metal stab.

EDIT: Ohps - I think this little metal thingy isn't inside the connector of the new mpc-generation units.

You can also use the complete PCU's from the new printer series based on the same engine. They're pretty cheap and you've got a fresh DV unit included. It's just important to swap the TD sensor pcb. I think the connector of these PCU's doesn't need any mods.

I always found this subject interesting but what i find strange is that it seems that none of you have the problem with the sponge cleaning roller which over hear wears out at the ends and starts giving dark lines or bands. I would realy like to know how you are all getting around this.

Can you specify that? Are you talking about the charge-cleaning roller?

Yes that's the bustard, they keep causing problems to an otherwise smooth running machine. The charge cleaning roller wears out at both or either end and causes dark bands at eiher side of prints/copies. The thing is you can not touch this roller as the material is so brittle it jaus comes off and Ricoh do not supply this part by it self or as an assembly. If only one could find a replacement for this the drum life would be extended for another few thousands of prints.

Ah ok - I think the new charge roller are indeed a step in the wrong direction. We didn't had this particulary problem but the new surface of the charge roller tends to collect dirt (mostly toner and wax) way faster than the old charge roller - and it's kind of impossible to clean them properly so you indeed need a new PCU (or an old type charge roller) if you have just a problem with the charge roller.
