Dude, 99% chance it's the drum.
Don't take that toner with me!

I have a similar problem as well. Changed a new drum and new hard disk but problem appears after a couple of days. Any other ideas?

As the description it's giving you for the 990 is procon (process control), more than likely you have a bad drum, or a bad reading from it.
The machine is actually a 2045e, and you're only two versions back on firmware, though controller v2.40s does mention as a fixed issue SC 990 for copy jobs fed through the bypass tray.

Try replacing the drum and running all associated SP's and then just for giggles, update all firmware.

That'll be the drum I think. rthonpm is bang on with what he says, every time I see that error on logging into SP modes I throw a new drum in.

dv007833 - it sounds like your laser unit might be giving up the ghost. Check the LD power settings, if they are astronomically high, reset them back to default and re-do the laser beam pitch adjustment settings. If it starts coding out on 322-326 it's time for a new laser.
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

              Hit it.

Go to Staples buy a 80g HDD and your problem will be solved. We run into it all the time.

If it runs dirty check the laser diode output. Toner on the diodes will bump the power to max and cause a "Software performance error"
