Ricoh MP 5500 incorrect papper setting

With tray 2 and 3 when the tray is full and auto select is on the machine recognizes the paper as 8K but if you put just one sheet in the tray the paper is recognized correctly(11 x 14). I'm not the tech that got the call so I'm not 100% sure what he has done. All I know is he confirms the settings are correct and that the sensors are fine. Maybe there is a firmware that could address the issue any suggestions?

I think it is how hard you push that tray in. I would replace the size switch assy

Could it have anything to do with paper size settings in user tools???
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change.

This sounds corny but I have gotten 8K on the display many times on the MP 5500 series. For some reason that size is close to 8.5 X 14 for the sensors. If you mess with the fences the 8K should go away when tight to the paper and show the correct size. There just isn't much slop to play with there unlike the other sizes such as letter. You can also tell the customer to go to user tools and change the size.

Yeah I have had this problem with people wanting to use 8.5 x 14 too. I don't know why it started showing up with this model the 2051 didn't have this problem. I have just been manually setting the size if they use legal people don't usually ever change the sizes anyway.

I would almost rather have the really old trays like the Aficio 700 where they had metal screwed down side guides and the size was only set in user tools.

We currently have it set manually for now, I will try the suggested solutions and see what happens thanks!

If your problem is with auto paper select I would check and see it the machine is setup in mm or inch. 5.024 I think.

Have you re-centred the side guides on the lower trays? If the customer slams a full ream of paper into the tray the rear guide may jump the gear causing a size misdetection, also the side to side reg may be out. When re centred lock the guides with self-tapping screws as suggested.
