    Has anyone noticed? (MP5000, SP8200DN)

This may be old news. I am sitting here looking at the part number lists for the fusers on both of these machines, and finding that they are identical. Even though they have 2 different part numbers (3 if you count the maintenance kit for the printer) for the fuser units, the parts inside are the same.

Has anyone tried a Maintenance Kit B (for and SP8200DN) in an MP5000?

(Cost of the Maintenance Kit is $350 compared to over $400 each for the fusers ordered as parts. AND the Maintenance Kit comes with the transfer belt unit.)

Main reason I'm asking is because I'd like to order a spare fuser for in shop rebuild, and looks like the Maintenance Kit would be the cheaper way to go.

    Thoughts?

Haven't tried this, but it may very well work. The MPC4500 will take the printer version of it's fuser. Chances are though, as with the 4500 you will need to modify it to work. On the 4500, there is a fuse to remove, and you also need to move a wire on the connector. It also comes with the transfer roller for the machine, which needs to have a tab cut off for it to fit.

Let us know what happens if you try it.

I called Ricoh (in The Netherlands) for this issue a couple of months ago and they said those fusers look identical but are not interchangable. Ricoh said the 8200DN fuser has a fuse for resetting the counter. I never tried it to see if it's true.

The fuse is just for the auto-reset of the counter. Exchange the harness or switch the pins around and its the same fuser.

Just as I thought, and of course, Ricoh is not going to tell you that.

            well THAT'S a prank call

What did you expect? "Oh yes sir, of course you can interchange the stuff so we can earn less money and talking about that: You can also interchange the PCU's and transfer unit.."
