    Aficio 1060 Hot Roller

Iv been working on these machines for a few years now,and Hot Roller yeld has been about 650k even 700k. Recently yeld has started to decrease to aprox. 550k and less, that is happening on almost all machines that I work on. All SP settings are default by service manual, we print on quality paper. We use only OEM parts. Any thoughts on this...?

All i can say is your doing well to get 500k or 700k as its got a life of 300k for the pm. If you geting less than before then make sure the cleaning section is ok eg. web roller and bearings etc.

      hi,
from my dodgy memory I recollect changing the type of hot roller on these machines about 5 years ago, this was also accompanied by a firmware upgrade for the the thermo's.

I was Lanier when these came out so I'm not sure of the model number and I'm too lazy to look it up right now - was that the roller with the thin layer of rubber?
First time I had to rebuild one I said (to myself) "Idiots. I wonder if the old AE011044 will work in there"
Especially since I didn't have the "right" roller to put in there. It worked and I've never looked back.

The 55PPM (Lanier LD055) is a different story - you drop a '1044 in there and and it will wake up with SC codes the next day, and that stupid stripper assembly doesn't help either. We didn't sell many of those...

In answer to your question - paper manufacturers are relying more on calcium carbonate to whiten paper than on chemical bleaching. It's "greener"

Calcium Carbonate is one of the very few things that will stick to Teflon, so the increase gunks up the heat roller faster (Its also why they don't use Teflon rollers in color machines since they usually deal with brighter paper and coated papers)

Ricoh has changed their coating formula, and it helps, but its only intended to make it to PM not 2x PM.

I generally push around 600-700k, some go even up to a mil. The PM interval for the fuser & press rollers are 500k, so I try to hit them every other PM.

As Shadow said, it very well might be happening on the paper mill side of things, and nothing that you have any real control over.

One other thing I do is to change the web supply quite a bit, which I think helps the rollers last a bit longer. I get them for ten bucks so it's easy to change them out when they are needed, rather than just adjust the web timing to slow them down so they will last.

We've always changed ours on the 600k PM with no problems

You use OEM parts but what about the toner? OEM as well? After market toner will gunk up your hot roller as well.

Relax! This firmware injection won't hurt...but it will take 45 minutes.

We've only ever fitted AE011044 to these and 1060/1075s. Never had any trouble and they lasted to the relevant PM just fine. Wear is dependent on the paper used and using OEM toner.

I saw the other day that they've gone back to the 1060/1075 fuser for the new MP9001 - I guess the thin rollers cool down too quickly.

And generate all those nasty SC codes.
