    New machine with sc990 code.

I was given a ticket for a Lanier LDO17. The machine is about 2 weeks old. The customer called and said that it codes almost every day. When I checked the history it showed this code had come up 6 times. I looked at past postings on this code and most seem to point to the drum, or hard drive. Any ideas will be helpful.

    SC990

Usually SC 990 is a hidden code not visible to customers. When shows on the main screen it's obvious it's something bad.
I'll start with firmware upgrade. Next check, the HDD, disconect it and see if SC 990 shows again. Check if memory is properly installed...or could be a bad module.
If the machine is new...just 2 weeks old a bad drum is out of the question, but it won't hurt if you will take out and reinstall the dev unit and pcu...and check the connectors. Is any other code hidden together with sc990???
Print a SMC and check. Good luck

This code is just too common.
1 HHD Format (backup sd ram)
      2 Firmware
3 memory and boards fitted right
      4 replace HDD

I hate this code as the machine diagnostics don't help much
Copiers are only as good as there last service

Thanks for the reply. There was 1 other code that showed on the report. I think it was SC871.

Can't find an LD017. Do you know the Ricoh breed? Is it an MP171?

If it is, the file that caused the SC code will be stored in NVRam. Use SP-7403 to see which one. To me it looks like firmware or a duff HDD / controller board. NVRam clear could work too.
