I don't think Ricoh recommends any specific brands of paper; However I've been told that the best quality paper is Hammermill.

Here are the recommended paper weights for a 2238 from Ricoh.com. From this it seems the machine isn't supposed to do cardstock. Double check all this in the machine's manual.

Paper types not suitable for this machine
    • Image quality will be degraded if certain paper types are used, or if the paper is damp.
    • Some paper types will cause paper misfeeds and may even damage the machine if you attempt to use them as copy paper.

Do not use the following paper types with this machine:
    • Paper for inkjet printers
    • Thermal fax paper
    • Art paper
    • Aluminum foil
    • Carbon paper
    • Conductive paper
    • Paper with perforated lines
    • Hemmed paper

    • Bent, folded or creased paper
    • Torn paper
    • Slippery paper
    • Perforated paper
    • Rough paper
    • Thin paper with low stiffness
    • Rough-grained paper
    • Paper with a dusty or waxy surface

Very good information on paper recommendations. Too bad most places never follow these guidelines and then complain, hey how come I can't feed this paper with 15 perforations, etc, etc.

Yeah I remember when these came out and tons of places got one for their first color copier. They all wanted to do 32 lb glossy and it would instantly destroy the fuser.

This was a great machine if they didn't want to do thick paper.

Lucky for me my customers upgrade often and these are all gone.
