    2045 vs 2045e: HDD

    Can anyone please tell me if the HDD on the Aficio 2045 is standard or optional? I know that it is standard on the 2045e.

    Can a standard off-the-shelf HD be installed, or does it have to be a special HD from Ricoh? If any can be fitted, is it 3.5 or 2.5?

      An off the shelf one should be okay, try it. It's a 40GB 3.5" and is standard on the Adonis, if you lose the HDD due to a fault the doc server and duplex options disappear.
      It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

          Well, then the machine should have an HD, since I can use both the duplex and the document server. I didn't look into the machine, but a colleague of mine has, and he said that there was no HDD to be seen - guess he didn't look into the right place.

              Look on the left side of the machine where the finisher plugs in, there will be a panel there where the NIB lives. Two screws, that comes out. That's the controller assembly. The HDD lives on there.

                  Speaking of the controller, I assume the 2045 on its own can only copy, right? The print/scanning only comes as an option (contrary to the 2045e, where it is standard)?

                      I think so. The only difference between the two is a NIB, a couple of DIMM's and some ops panel buttons really.

                              No, it can't print. It's missing the memory expansion and the ops panel buttons to make the printing function work. The list of parts that make up the option is listed in the Print / Scan Type 2045 parts catalogue.

                                      Sorry to bring this up again, but another question cropped up: If we fit a 2045 with a network card, will we be able to use Active Directory authentication for copy/print? Or is this machine too old for this?

                                      And, if not, what about other types of authentication (with and without NIC)?

                                          Good question. I would imagine the controller is too old to support it, however if you look in the printer, scanner or security reference manual I would imagine it'll tell you.

                                              The 2045 and 2045e are NOT the same machine. The controller boards as different and the 2045 cannot be upgraded to a 2045e either.
                                              The 2045 can print fine, but scanning was using Scanrouter or Scan to email thru an email server that is on the exact same subnet and has no security.
                                              The 2045e has internal scan to folder and email can be off site with user authenticated security.

                                              As to a question lower in this thread, I do not think that these machines can do any authentication other than user codes. That level of access came with the 30xx series and newer.

                                                  That Scanrouter - I'm assuming is some kind of software - is it downloadable from the Ricoh support site for free or does it need any kind of extra spending?

                                                          Just today I came across ScanRouter Lite v2 still up on TSC. There was a comment with it that it is no longer supported as of 2006.
