    MP2000/2015/18D etc

    Hi Guys

Has anyone come up with a definatve fix for the MP2000 family and its predesessors, jamming in the fuser. I mean jamming by concerteenering (I think its spelt right) in the fuser. I have tried all the mods i.e scapers and springs, or is this just the way they are by design.

    Cheers

I use the stripper pawl springs of the AF2045 fusing unit. These springs are stronger.

No matter which springs you use in these buggers they just do it anyway. I think the problem lies in the first jam in the fuser, customer wrenches it out and the finger is dislocated. Then the fun starts. I normally tell the customer just to be careful on jam clearance.
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

      Hit it.

I can remember that there was also a firmware update for this problem.

The firmware fix was for the 2018 so all models afterward should have the improved jam detection timing built in.
I actually just take out the middle finger as that seems to be the main one to lose its spring or to fail (is the fact that it's the middle finger some kind of message from the engineers to us technicians???). Also, I make sure that all of my customers use letter paper LEF to reduce the amount of paper that has to go through the fuser in case of a jam, and also to make sure the size encoders and guides are set flush to the paper.
Mainly now I just need to replace the fingers for the wonderful screeching they make when they get pitted.

We remove the middle finger and then bend the little shinny metal plate thingie with the white wheel on. There white wheels are just behind the back of the fuser fingers. We bend them so that they are almost toughing the finger. Just be careful for not to tight otherwise the fuser roller gets scratched

Ditto on the middle finger... er - I guess that didn't sound quite right, but pull it, pitch it, and problem gone.

on most of these m/c the cause is damp or poor paper withtoo much curl fitting tray heaters often helps it would be good if ricoh made the fuser exit guide a little longer more tham the mode on the 1018 as this would stop the jam in the first place if i am desperate i will add a mylar on the fuser exit guide this then pushes the paper to the exit area better

How well does this hold up to the heat?

                      We do exactly the same.

Where my brother works, they have a MP1600 (not supplied by us). He's pulled off all of the stripper fingers and it works fine apparently!

Depends on where you are. In our area, the machines that is near the ocean tends to jam more. Probably the humidity that causes more paper curl. But I have observed that people that live close to the ocean are more stupid than people living inland and thus tend to not correctly set the paper in the tray, or not correctly adjusting the size, and causing a jam. And then, when they are angry, pulling to rough on the paper, breaking the strippers. Maybe its the humidity, but bending the silver things works great (most of the time)

the adding the mylar can last a good 18 months if the mylar is good and thick i use hiht temp resistant glue to stick it on maybe some plastic from an old fuser would also do the job
