Got to go to a mp2500sp that IT can't set up scan to folder. Keep getting "path incorrect". Everything looks ok, Folder is fully shared, IP address and subnet correct. They can ping the MFP from the PC and also ping the PC from the MFP. I had a go at setting one up in our showroom and had the same problem but got the scan working by putting the PC name instead of the IP address for the path. My boss pays someone to do all the connectivity work form another company and wants me to start doing this. Any input would be very helpful. Thanks.

Make sure you have proper authentication. I usually create a user in the background, and give it administrative rights. That way it will work for anybody who logs on.
If you can ping both ways, make sure file and print sharing is turned on. Also, turn off the firewall, and try it. If it works, you know it is a firewall issue. Sometimes you have to change the scope in firewall exceptions from Subnet, to any network under file and print sharing.
Make sure your share is set to full control. or allow others to change my files.
Make sure you have those rights applied to the "everyone" group. -
If PC work on DOMAIN or WORKGROUP?
If work on domain in File transfer put USERNAME@DOMAI NAME
(USER NAME ON PC ) and on change put PADDWORD on PC
If work PC on WORKGROUP on File transfer put work group name\usre name
(user name on PC if a PC have user name and on change if a PC have PASSWORD)
If a PC don't have a USER NAME AND PASSWORD you can put only WORKGROUP name
Normally you must to have a FULL permision on that FOLDERComment

I had a similar problem on a MPC 4500 scanning to folder on Vista. It turned out that there was a firmware update to take care of the communication with Vista.
I just looked at the TSRC, and there was a update on the firmware for the MP 2500 NIB in Feb.2008.
Not sure if this will fix your problem, but I would definately give it a try.Comment

Update
Thanks for all your replies not had chance to follow up on any advice yet but went in this morning with IT and still unable to scan. Tried to scan on a client PC and also on the server (windows 2003). I did manage to scan to my laptop with no problem at all. The MFP is in the large offices of a major bank. Looked at a white paper for setting up scan and went through it all All firewalls have been turned off, the scan folder fully shared and keep getting unable to connect to PC..netbios over tcp/ip is enabled. The IT administrator did say that there is an anti virus software running on the server which might be doing something but he wasn't sure and he will check it out.He wasn't able to do anything cause he had to set it up from somewhere else. I'll try to update the firmware next but keep on giving me your input cause it all helps. Thanks again.Comment

Go with the 'path incorrect' message. This is not your normal authentication or communication error.
Try browsing the network from the mfp, if you can locate the scan folder, try scanning to it manually. If that works, use the full path name it shows on the mfp. This will also tell you if your authentication is ok, as you will need to enter the username and password to browse the network from the machine.
This 'working backward' method has saved me many times.Don't take that toner with me!Comment
