customer has new unit, when receiving faxes you get a ring tone but no answer. Yes there is a pbx involved. Any help would be appreciated.

good point - the pbx can be the problem as well. The best way to check issues like this is using a simple phone. Just connect it to the fax line and try call out/in.

Yep, but normally the incoming "calls" faxes to the machine should be direct, the outgoing fax need a 01 or something like that to optain a line activation. so look at the PBx first.
you can also try calling the "machine" fax number with your sell phone and hear if its calling and trying to establish a handshake with the copier, you can check the comunication led on the machine.
