    Drivers Asking for User Code?

Hello guys and girls. Here's another nice one for you to sink your teeth into:

Are there any Ricoh drivers that pop-up a window asking for user authentication when printing?

I'm searching mainly for a (quite old) Ricoh 2045, but I'd like to know if newer models also have that ability or if a user nowadays still has to go through all the "Properties" loops in order to type in his/her user code.

    Cheers!

Using the RPCS code, when you install the driver you input a code. If you want to change the code you have to reinstall the driver.
Then that code is input into the address book and turn on the feature in Configuration.

But that's only good when a PC is only used by one person - I was thinking of a shared environment, where a PC is shared between n users. Then a popup would come in handy.

Your would have to customize a driver using the PCL editor. Available on the Ricoh tech site.

          Driver

We ran into this issue too, and I have not found a Ricoh driver that will prompt for a user code. We worked around this by using the PCL6 or PCL5/5c Drivers. The user must go into the printer properties>Valid access tab and input their user code before printing. A Hassle for the customer but better than nothing.

ricoh drivers are standard built by default.
customisation of printer driver will solve your problem.

And can I do that kind of customization myself, or should I ask Ricoh for it (like Konica Minolta)? Because I doubt they will customize my drivers just because of one customer's machine.

Yes, you can use the PCL editor to make it pop up a window to put the code in. So then when the user hits print a little window comes up asking for the code. It's on the TSC site someplace I can't remember where exactly.

Sadly, the 2045 drivers are too old to work with the Default Editor tool. (I just tried both the PCL5 and PCL6 - no banana.)

I doubt that Ricoh would be willing to customize it for you (for free, anyway...), but I guess it can't hurt to ask.

Maybe you could experiment with drivers that are supported (like the MP4000) with the tool, and then see if that driver will work reliably with the 2045 - an iffy solution at best, with no guarantees.
