LOL I am the rep . Called Ricoh tech support and they want me to replace the NV-RAm and BICU before they will walk me thorough the procedure . Just thought I might be able to do it before investing company dollars into a unit which will be scrapped soon .
      Thanks for the feedback .

The manual says it's a defective NVRAM or the BICU-board is replaced without the original NVRAM, so the answer Ricoh gives is the right one, I think.

If you haven't already replaced the NVRAM, why do you need to change the serial number?

you are using an NVRam that belongs to other machine???? If that , you have to change the tab placed in the scanner unit ,the machine "read" that code there.

On some models you have to enter the serialnumber when you've replaced a board. Even when you use the same NV ram.

So what you're saying is tech support won't give you the procedure to enter factory service mode ? Instead they want you to replace costly parts at which time you'll still need the procedure.

Thanks to all who replied . No boards were changed prior to the code coming up . The serial number in SP5811 is scrambled . I did finally order the parts .The end user told me there was a major power outage the day before . Once again thanks and I will post the results.

Changing serial number still does not fix the Counter.

Personally I hate changing serial number it won't change the counter. Yes you can zero counter. It isn't ethical, but doing a mem clear before per Savin instructions has done this. Sucks too for the billing people.
